Hey, neighbor! It’s Sean from LOCAL Bug Guy!
Ants are one of the most common household pests around California and Utah. They have a knack for finding the tiniest cracks, and when they do, they sneak and get into your food stash. Yuck.
As one of the most common pests, you’re probably wondering who handles ants best. This post should put you in the right direction.
If you’d like a pro to take care of ants for you, contact us at LOCAL Bug Guy! Our customer satisfaction is through the roof and we’ll give you a free, no-BS quote over phone or email.
What makes a good pest control company for ants?
The truth is that any pest control company worth its salt should be trained to handle ants. You’ll be hard pressed to find a pest control company that doesn’t handle ants at all.
Most pest control companies use similar products and methods to treat for ants, so what the issue really comes down to is pricing. Does X pest control company work within your budget? Will they cover your yard as well as your interior, or just cover the inside or outside? This is where we recommend contacting a handful of pest control companies to find the price and coverage that best suits your needs.
Also, check the reviews of each pest control company you’re looking into! A pest control company might be attached to a big brand name, but if your local branch has a lot of negative reviews, you might want to look elsewhere.
LOCAL Bug Guy typically charges $45 a month with a $150 startup fee to treat for ants and other common pests. The prices fluctuate, though, based on the size of your home and the area we’d need to cover. We’re happy to give you a free quote if you contact us.

Can I just do it myself?
If money is tight and you have the time to put in a little work, it can be absolutely worth it to do your own ant control. But there are some things you need to know before you get started.
First, get rid of any ants you’re finding indoors. If you spray the exterior of your house with a protective bug spray, you might be trapping ants inside! That’s a big no-no.
To get rid of indoor ants, use Terro ant bait or ant traps. With Terro bait, ants will take the bait back to their colonies and share it around, which will make them sick and die. With ant traps, ants will be attracted to the sugars and proteins in the trap, then enter and find themselves stuck to a layer of glue. Once the trap is full, you can throw it out. Bye, ants.
Once your interior is free of ants, that will be the time to treat the exterior of your home. We recommend Ortho Home Defense as an all-around protective pest control spray. Spray the outside edges of your foundation along with the edges of your doors and windows. Follow the instructions on the packaging to make sure you’re getting the most out of the product.
You can get a few uses out of a single bottle of Ortho Home Defense, but we actually recommend using the whole thing. That will make your barrier extra strong.
Other precautions
This probably goes without saying, but take a look at the obvious places where ants could be sneaking in. This could include doors with weather stripping that need replacing, drafty windows, or sliding doors that don’t shut all the way.
If you can get these things insulated right, that will help cut down your ant problem.
