Hey, neighbor! It’s Sean with LOCAL Bug Guy!

Let me explain where you can find spiders most often so you can take care of them.

Common Areas for Spiders

Spiders prefer low traffic areas where they can still find other bugs for the occasional meal. This means that they love building their webs in places you probably won’t spot on a daily basis.

Garage

Your garage is big and has so many places to hide! This is prime real estate for spiders. And since garages so often have little cracks and openings for bugs to crawl inside, it means spiders have no problem finding snacks.

In your garage, you’ll most often find spider webs built in corners, behind boxes, in or around garbage cans, or under barely moved furniture.

Watch out for black widows! Their webs are very messy and chaotic and filled with little bits of debris. And their webs are rarely built higher than the knee up. You’re more likely to find them in your garage than anywhere else in your home.

Basements & Attics

Your basement and attic are also great places for spiders to hide, especially if your basement is unfinished.

Basements are cool and might have moist areas, especially if you have a bathroom down there. You’ll find spiders building webs in corners, behind furniture, in window wells, or in cupboards and drawers.

In attics, spiders will build webs amid the clutter—we’re talking behind boxes, inside of boxes, behind things that haven’t been moved for years, and of course, corners and ceilings. If you need to visit your attic to sift through things, we recommend wearing gloves to avoid potential bites from spooked spiders.

Bedrooms

In your bedroom, you’re most likely to find spiders in your closet. If you’re like most people, your closet has become almost a sort of catch-all storage place. With all the stuff in there, it’s easy for spiders to hide.

You might also find spiders building webs under your bed or behind furniture, but that might not be as common.

Kitchen

Most pests (not just spiders) are attracted to sugars, proteins, and moisture, so your kitchen is a watering hole for them. Make sure all of your food is properly stored and that you’re cleaning up messes frequently. If not, you’ll attract pests.

Most commonly, you’ll find spider webs behind appliances. Under and behind your stove and refrigerator are popular spots. You might also occasionally find spiders behind smaller appliances like microwaves, toaster ovens, blenders, or more, but that’s a bit less common.

How to Treat for Spiders

If you want to do it yourself, use a perimeter spray like Ortho Home Defense to create a protective barrier around your home at least once per season. Follow the instructions on the bottle for handling and application. Make sure to spray under things in your garage and on your patio, too. These are spots where black widows like to build their webs.

If you’d rather let a professional handle it, contact us at LOCAL Bug Guy. You’ll get the name, email, and phone number of one of our fast and friendly pest control techs so you can contact them whenever you need. We’ll make sure your home is treated for spiders at least once per season, and we’ll make sure they stay out.

Contact us for a free quote! We’ll tell you on the call what the price will be based on your home’s area, size, and infestation level.
