If you hire a pest control company, then you are doing so to make your life easier, not harder. But if you don’t know how to communicate with your company, then it is easy to have misunderstandings.
Here are 3 tips to help you not hate your pest control company.
Utilize technology. Thirty years ago, you had to find a way to call your company when they were open for business. Usually, Monday through Friday between 9 and 5–the same time that you were busy with your job. These days, you can reach out in so many ways.
Find out what ways your company can communicate and use the one that works best for you. Most companies have a phone line, a text line, an email, and a website contact form.
Some of the bigger ones might also have an app or even a 24/7 chat feature. Use the method of communication that works best for you!
Reach out when you think about it. If you notice a pest problem at 2 am on Saturday morning don’t wait till 9 am on Monday to reach out! Instead, shoot them a message when you are thinking about it. Take it off of your to-do list and onto theirs!
I have encouraged many customers over the years to do this. They often feel bad about bothering us after hours. DON’T. Seriously, don't feel bad about it. Why do I say this?
People in the pest control industry are generally good people with a good heart. They want to help you! Give them the opportunity to do so. They don’t want you to stress all weekend or forget about it all day and then remember in the middle of the night again.
If they are closed you can leave a message. If you feel bad about calling because you think it might go to their cell and disturb them after hours. Send a text or an email. They can reach back out when they are in the office.
BUT, if you don’t get a response then reach out again. I hate to make excuses... but pest control is a very busy business. So sometimes people fall through the cracks. Occasionally, we have customers who wait 1 or 2 weeks for us to get back to them and then get very upset that we didn’t. We get back to 99% of people. But occasionally people fall through the cracks. I wish that was not true–but it is.
If you have not heard from us then check your voicemail or just reach back out! On busy days it may take an hour or two to get through the messages. If it has been longer than 2 hours then don’t wait two weeks. Just reach back out when you think of it! Sometimes it is human error and sometimes it is technology. But we want to help so please help us to help you!
If you can, build a relationship. “People like doing business with people.” If you can, you should get on a first-name basis with someone at the company. It may be your tech or the office manager or someone. Not only does it make it much more pleasant. But it can help eliminate misunderstandings and frustrations!
I hope you find these tips practical and useful!
