Is it normal to have bugs after a pest control service?

What if you paid to solve a problem and then your problem got worse?  How would that make you feel?

If we are talking about pest control then it might be a sign of a really great service!  How can this be true?  And why would anybody ever be happy about this?

I will explain.  There are four stages of a pest control service.  I will tell you about them, and I will explain what you should expect in each stage…

I am calling the first stage of pest control the breaking point.  Nobody really wants to hire a pest control company. But when your life is disrupted, then you have to do something!  It might be an infestation of Black Widows or a wasp stinging your kids or pets. Or you might have ants taking over the inside of your home.

Or you might have a company and they are more annoying than the bugs,….  Sometimes it is time for a change!

When you can’t take it any more then you turn to Google to find a company.  Or maybe you turn to your community to ask for referrals and recommendations.

What should you expect at this stage?  You should expect to find a pest control company to solve your problem.  There are many great companies out there.  If you are lucky you will get it right the first time!  It really is about finding the right fit for you.

Two weeks after your service.  It will probably get “worse before it gets better.”  Don’t let this deter you.  It is part of the process.

Why would this be the case?  Because the bugs (spiders, ants, wasps, etc) are hiding in cracks and crevices.  The spray will chase them out.  They will come out to die.  Within 2 weeks the activity should die down to a minimum!

Sometimes it gets worse for two or three days and then it gets better. Sometimes it takes 5 to 7 days and sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks. But expect it to get worse and then expect it to get better.

The 2 middle months.  If you get serviced every 3 months then you will have a 2 weeks before your service and 2 weeks after and a 2 middle months.  The 2 middle months are the best!  It is when you will see the least amount of bugs.

Does this mean you will see no bugs?  I wish I could say yes. But that’s not realistic. Years ago I learned that it is called Pest Control for a reason. It is not pest elimination or pest eradication. Because you cannot eliminate all pests. But you CAN get them under control.

You can "take the edge off" and make it a lot more livable! And for most people that is totally worth the price of admission.

Products of 50 and 60 years ago worked better and lasted longer than they do today. But they were causing health problems and messing with the environment. The products today still work pretty well. But they are a lot less dangerous for people, pets, and the environment. It is a very worthy trade-off.

Two weeks before your next service.  Every reputable Pest Control company offers a warranty. In other words, if the service does not work, they will come back for free. Or, if the service does work but the bugs come back before the company does, then the company will come back for free.

I have learned from customers that every three months is a very good interval for servicing the home. Over the years I have had many customers tell me they almost called for a free service. But they decided to wait. And sure enough, it was time for their next service!

So, what should you expect two weeks before your next service? You should expect to start seeing a few more bugs. Why is this? Because the spray is wearing off and the bugs are starting to rebuild.

A word of warning. If you’re starting to see too many bugs it may be because it’s almost time for your next service.  But it also might mean something else.

It might mean that you are in the middle of your service and you really need a free touchup service. If you’re not sure then give your company a call and ask them!

So, is it normal to see bugs if you have a pest control service? Yes, it is. Pest control can control the bugs, but it will not completely eliminate them. That’s why they call it Pest Control, not pest elimination. But if bugs start to get out of control, reach out to your company. Ask for a warranty service!

Pest Control may not be as perfect as you and I wish it to be, but it’s still a wonderful thing!
