Hey, it’s Sean with LOCAL Bug Guy! Summer is here and it feels like more bugs are out and about than ever.
You might be wondering how often you should spray your home for bugs. Let me break it down for you and answer a few other questions along the way.
(PS, if you’d rather let someone else worry about handling your bugs, LOCAL Bug Guy offers a free quote for pest control in the Spanish Fork, UT area.)
So again… how often should I spray for bugs?
A good rule of thumb is to spray your home for bugs every two to three months. You could get a common bug spray from Lowe’s or Walmart and that might be fine, but that can take a lot of time and energy, especially when your life is already so busy.
If you’re like most of our customers, you’re already swamped with soccer games, business meetings, and the hustle of family life. You’re better off hiring a reliable, experienced pest control expert to take care of those pests for you. That’ll take one less thing off your plate so you can spend time doing things that actually matter.
If you’d like to save some time and rid your house of pests, reach out to LOCAL Bug Guy for a free quote.
Most Common Household Pests in Utah
If you’re in our service areas in Utah, you’ve definitely experienced these little critters:
Ants
Pavement ants, harvester ants, and fire ants are most common. Pavement ants are the little black ants that you’ll often find in your kitchen. Harvester ants are venomous and have a really painful sting. And fire ant bites can cause an allergic reaction in some people, not to mention damage to your property.
Treatment recommendation: Every three months from spring to fall. Spray an anti-ant spray around your home’s foundation, around hardscape like sidewalks and lawn curbs, and along the interior baseboards of your home.
Spiders
Ugh. Spiders. There are a lot of spider species, but the most common spider pests in Utah are black widows, brown widows, wolf spiders, garden spiders, and jumping spiders.
Black widows are dangerous and need to be handled immediately
Brown widows aren’t as harmful, but their bites are still venomous and can hurt.
Wolf spiders are mostly harmless, but they are big, hairy, and scary.
Garden spiders are generally fine to have in your garden, but they can be annoying in your home.
Jumping spiders are small but have a bite that can feel like a mosquito bite.
Treatment recommendation: Spray outside every three months. Pay attention to areas on the ground level like the house’s foundation, eves, patio furniture, and play sets. A basement treatment is smart during the winter months because spiders might try to move inside to be warm.
Wasps
Wasps love to build nests in sheltered, hidden places like porches and patios. This can really ruin your summer barbecues, especially if you have guests that get stung. A wasp’s sting is painful, so it’s best to take care of wasp nests asap.
Treatment recommendation: Wasps get bad in the spring because this is when they’re looking for places to nest. However, you can sometimes prevent wasps by hanging fake wasps nests—they’re territorial, so they’ll build somewhere else. You can also spray wasps nests with a long-range wasp spray. Just make sure you cover up with long pants and a long shirt to protect yourself from possible stings! If you’d rather let an expert handle it, LOCAL Bug Guy is happy to help.
Earwigs
Earwigs hide in dark cracks during the day then tend to come out at night because they’re nocturnal. They’re extremely common, with creepy little pincers on their backs. They’re not dangerous, but they are unpleasant. You don’t want to run into one of these in the middle of the night.
Treatment recommendation: Have your LOCAL Bug Guy technician treat the foundation of your home so earwigs have a harder time getting inside. Even more thorough service will include areas that earwigs are likely living in before the heat drives them inside.

Honestly I’m into posts that don’t try to sound smarter than they need to, and this one felt super easy to follow. I was kind of half-reading and still didn’t lose the thread. Somewhere in the middle I hopped over to thedriftboss.com and it matched that same chill, straightforward vibe—no digging around to find the basics. The game description is clear enough that you immediately get the point: it’s that one-button drifting thing where timing is basically the whole challenge. I also liked that the page isn’t noisy, so you’re not getting yanked around by a bunch of distractions while you’re trying to read. The way they break things up with simple headings and short chunks makes it easy to…
